Epiphone Dot Harness Upgrade.
My Epiphone dot is a great guitar for the money, however I felt it could do with a few upgrades to make it feel a little more responsive.
I have now installed a prewired harness from a company called James' Home of Tone.
It is suitable for ES335 and casino style guitars.
The harness comes with two volumes two tones a new jack socket and new switch.
All I had to do was remove the old harness and ensure that the ground wire and pickup wires were still intact and long enough to complete the job without having to replace them.
Then as the Epiphone Dot is not American made, I had to widen the volume and tone pot shaft holes on the body of the guitar as the shafts on the original pots are narrower than what would be stock on say a Gibson ES335.
Once the body work was ready to receive the new harness it was time to make the connections to the new harness.
Once the connections were made, I checked to see that I was getting an output and then continued to feed the harness into the guitar through the F hole.
Fitting the harness into the body is a fiddly job but is straight forward, I started furthest away at the jack and worked back finishing at the switch.
I did a final sound check before fitting the new reflector style knobs and all was complete.
Verdict.
Thoroughly pleased with the results I have had with this new harness; the switch is really smooth to use! night and day compared to the original.
The tone rolls off smoothly and you can notice a change around 7 on the knob.
The volume controls are also now very responsive giving you loads more options tonality wise.
The new harness was so tidy and well-presented when delivered, I would highly recommend this to anyone thinking of upgrading their guitar parts.
